2015 was the year when Ashworth really made his mark, releasing his debut album ‘Grain’ on Needwant. The album showcased a producer who has a way with melody, sensitivity and musical depth; rare to see from a creator who enjoys late nights in loud parties as much as avant-garde concerts.
Ashworth spends his days producing and engineering, whilst creating sound art and scoring music for film. From meticulously crafting milliseconds of audio, to playing marathon DJ sets in clubs across Europe and beyond, it is this variety of experiences and stimuli that enriches his work.
Making the decision in 2012 to record and DJ under the name ‘Ashworth’ gave Joe a chance to take a step back and consider what it is about music that inspires him. A few years of relentless music-making resulted in a sound that has the gritty honesty of techno, with an experimental and melodic edge.
A string of releases and collaborations have organically grown Ashworth from a brand new name on the scene to an established artist, with releases on W&O Street Tracks, Anjunadeep, Holic Trax and Little Helpers, receiving support from Maya Jane Coles, B-Traits, Dixon and many others.
Ashworth has also been building a reputation as a unique, exciting and versatile DJ, with a love of vinyl and extended sets. While the sets cover all aspects of electronic music, they somehow maintain a cohesive connection to the sound of the music that comes out of his London studio.
