Curtis Gabriel

Biography

It was a chance find of a Richer Sounds catalogue on the floor of his hometown of Sheffield that kick-started the DJ journey of a 12 year old Curtis Gabriel. After winning around his parents who had never seen him so passionate about a hobby, Curtis’s music soon became the only extra- curricular activity he needed. Practising after school every day for a year, Curtis landed his first gig at a popular bar in Leeds (sinking back down to earth with a bump the next day with double maths in the morning!).

Fast forward to 2015 and Curtis, with the help of a gift from his late grandfather, operates a slick studio set up and has enjoyed his first taste of international success this summer. His first Traxsource overall Chart #1 hit was his remix of ‘song of the season’ Sweet Female Attitude’s ‘Flowers’, a collaboration with industry golden girl, Defected resident Sam Divine, which has fast become a defining track of Ibiza 2015, with the mighty All Around The World Recordings.
Since bursting onto the scene in mid 2014, Curtis has racked up releases with respected underground labels including Simma Black, Xylo, Love Harder, Glyph and CR2, of which ‘If You Can’ (originally signed to D-Vine Sounds) featured on their Ibiza 2015 Compilation.
Curtis has developed a sound that is completely on point with the chart trends of this year, fusing old school garage elements together with powerful bass, soulful keys and riffs to devastating effect. His first breakthrough was having one of his early releases ‘Some People Say’ featured on credible YouTube source Selected, gaining over a millions views, alongside a repost by online dance music authority The EDM Network.
Since his career accelerated, Curtis has graced the decks at Egg, the Qube and SIN in Dublin, plus he is set to appear for the first time at Ministry of Sound for Kinky Malinki this Autumn. Curtis is optimistic yet humble, filled with gratitude at the opportunity to shine within an over-saturated industry.
Traxsource have charted Curtis at #16 of their Top House Artists of 2015, and rightly so. If it’s true that nice guys finish last then Curtis has definitely rewritten this rule, his humility, solid talent and reputation for being one of the industry’s most genuine and production focused artists is fast fuelling a queue around the block as fellow producers line up to collaborate with the new hot property.
On the schedule for the rest of the year are several more collaborations including a single with Sam Divine, Confessions (D-Vine Sounds TBA) a remix of Sammy Porter’s How You Feel set for release on Island Records and a track featuring Natalie Conway which is under construction (TBA later this year).
