From his heady days as resident at Belfast’s legendary Network club, to residencies at the rather more exotic Amnesia, Pacha, Space and Café Mambo in Ibiza, Dee Montero has been whipping dancefloors into a frenzy across the globe for more than 15 years. His studio productions on labels such as Renaissance and his own Montero Grooves have also attracted admiration from the likes of Dubfire, Sasha, Pete Tong, Nic Fanciulli and James Zabiela. Not bad going for the winner of the Northern Ireland Vestax Mixing Championship at the age of 17!
Dee has produced over 50 tracks in the past decade, including the monster ‘Captain Hook’ on Renaissance which hit No.1 on the Beatport Top 100 and DJ Mag charted the track as their most downloaded tune of 2005. His productions have seen airplay on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection, featured on Global Underground & Renaissance compilations and heavily supported by the likes of Deep Dish, Sasha and James Zabiela to name a few.
His DJ career began at the innocent age of 17 when he won the Vestax mixing championships in 1995. This led to him securing his first residency at the infamous Network Club in his native town of Belfast where he really cut his teeth as a DJ warming up for early house legends.
In 2000, when the Network Club shut its doors, Dee packed his record bags and headed for the White Isle – Ibiza. Thinking he would only last three weeks of the season he not only survived his first, but also returned for the following six seasons taking up residencies at venues such as Cafe Mambo, Pacha and every Tuesday Amnesia playing alongside some of the biggest names in dance music.
After relocating to Hong Kong in 2008 where he brought over respected artists such as Joris Voorn, Nic Fanciulli, Nina Kraviz, Aeroplane and Greg Wilson to the city, Dee is now based back in his spiritual home Ibiza. During his 8 hour sets at Cafe Mambo Dee gets to dig deep into his collection and play everything from tripped out grooves and forgotten balearic gems to cosmic disco and deep tech house.
His recent tracks on Saved and Kraftek are already gaining strong support and looking to be the highlight tracks of this summer with ‘Full Body’ climbing up the Beatport charts.
