Julien Loreto

Biography

After many sleepless nights dancing to the acid house and techno sounds of the mid 90’s, Julien fell under the spell of masterful DJ’s like Richiew Hawtin, Derrick May and Derrick Carter. The late night dancing turned into DJ study sessions; listening and watching the techniques, programing and mixing styles of the experienced DJ. At the age of 17 and transfixed on the underground sound, Julien sold his soul for a pair of used Technics 1200 turntables and started making mix tapes for friends. The early mix tapes led to dj sets at house parties and one off events, which eventually opened the doors to Julien’s first club gig. By 2006, he held residencies at a number of iconic Toronto clubs such as the legendary Mad Bar, world renowned Guvernment and afterhours favourite, Comfort Zone.

In 2008, Julien was invited to the 1st Annual BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, where he played a memorable set at Kool Beach Club that has led to a successful five-year residency with The BPM Festival. During these years, Julien has opened for techno hero’s Richie Hawtin and Dubfire as well as DJing along side some of the world’s best talent. Aside from Toronto and Mexico, Julien has moved dance floors in Montreal, New York and Miami – WMC.

As a true music aficionado, Julien draws influences from all genres of music from rock to hip-hip, electronic to world rhythms, jazz to soul, and everything in between. His selected blend of house, techno and minimal music together with his charisma behind the decks, has gained him a reputation for energizing dance floors and creating a vibrant party vibe. With a desire to be even closer to the music and groves that he has been listen to for years, Julien, inevitably, began to produce his own music. Since 2008 Julien has released music on international imprints like Rawthentic Music (Canada), Inmotoin (US), Potobollo (France), Restructured (Canada) and Bosphorus Underground (Turkey) and has received track support from the likes of Marco Carola, Carlo Lio, and Kaiserdisco just to name a few. Early productions “Tricks for Free” and “State of Mind” were noticed on an international level and licensed to mix compilations based out of Europe and South America. Recent tracks such as “Benthaus”, “Musica” and “Make Me Feel” have appeared on various international DJ charts including the globally competitive Beatport Top 100.

Currently, Julien is busy making music, djing, and exploring new ways to express himself through what he loves most…the music.
