James Harcourt returns for a 3rd E.P release in 2015, this time with a 3 tracker covering different styles in the tech and progressive arena. Title track ‘Reality Check’ is bass driven house music with groove, funk and melody and a slightly lower BPM. Less is more with this track and it’s a glimpse toward the melodic sound which James has been returning to over the last couple of years, with a lot of grit and oddity baked in.
‘Lullaby’ is a haunting melodic journey built around a more flat bassline, with a lot of movement in the percussion and emotion added by an odd yet melodic processed vocal – the track gradually intensifies until reaching a higher level in the second half.
The final track ‘Monster’ gives melody a break and is a higher energy track aimed squarely at the tougher techno dancefloors. Some extreme processing is used to achieve gradually building and evolving lead sounds over an intense lo-fi techno backbeat which builds to a powerful pay-off.
